BJ McDonnell is from the Deep South of Pensacola, Florida. Moved to Los Angeles after his punk rock career ended. Influenced by his grandfather; actor Leif Erickson, he decided to pursue a career in the film industry. He attended Los Angeles City College and graduated with a associates degree in cinema. Soon after graduation BJ began his career in Los Angeles where he has worked on many features and television shows as a grip, camera operator, and steadicam operator. BJ is also a member of IATSE local 600 cinematographers guild, and Local 80 Grips.
